As a school community, Park Elementary School strives to develop students who appreciate the value of individual differences, a culture of diverse perspectives and the power of meaningful collaboration. The Inclusion Committee at Park Elementary was formed in an effort to promote a culture of respect and acceptance where everyone feels valued and supported. The committee is formed by a group of Special Education, Bilingual, and General Education teachers who meet regularly to discuss opportunities and the implementation of activities that encourage collaboration between diverse learning communities.

This year, students in the MDMI, Bilingual and Regular Education classrooms came together to read books, discuss topics and make new friends during the Buddy Reading committee event. Some of the upcoming activities planned by the committee include Team Math Problem Solving where mathematical concepts will be reinforced through math centers and small group learning. Students will also come together to learn gardening skills in the upcoming Planting Partnership activity. “The committee provides students with the opportunity to do academic work with peers outside of their classrooms and form genuine relationships that are fun and respectful” said Ms. Jaclyn Cancro, Committee Team Lead.
