Welcome Back Letter

Dear Salomé Ureña Elementary School Community,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! We remain dedicated to academic excellence, innovation, school safety, and creating an inclusive environment for all. Our top priority is meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of every student—as we inspire them to be STARS by Showing Kindness, Taking Responsibility, Acting Safely, Respecting Everyone, and Staying Positive.

As we prepare for our return in September, please take a moment to carefully review this letter. It includes important information to help ensure a smooth and successful start to the school year. Additional updates will be shared soon.

First Day of School for Students: The first day of the school year is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Students should arrive by 8:15 AM. We’re aiming for 100% attendance on the first day, so it’s important that all students are present and on time as we kick off a strong start to the year!

Student Attendance: Regular attendance is essential for your child’s academic success at every grade level. In New Jersey, daily school attendance is required by state law. Please make sure your child is present each day to support their learning and progress.

Mandatory Uniform: All Newark Board of Education students (Pre-K to 12th Grade) are required to wear school uniforms. Shirts: Navy Blue Collared Shirt Pants/Skirts: Khaki (Beige) Shoes: Shoes must be securely fastened. Crocs, clogs, flip-flops, and bedroom/house slippers are not permitted. Physical Education Attire: Navy blue sweatpants with a gold or navy blue shirt Shoes: Sneakers ONLY

Lunch Applications: Every family is required to complete a lunch application per child enrolled at Salomé Ureña Elementary School. The deadline to complete the lunch application is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Lunch Applications Website: https://linqconnect.com/public/meal-application/new

Mientras nos preparamos para regresar en septiembre, por favor tómese un momento para leer cuidadosamente esta carta. Contiene información importante para asegurar un inicio de año escolar exitoso. Pronto se compartirán actualizaciones adicionales.

Primer día de clases: El primer día de clases será el martes, 2 de septiembre de 2025. Los estudiantes deben llegar a más tardar a las 8:15 a.m. Estamos trabajando para lograr una asistencia del 100% ese día, por lo que es muy importante que todos los estudiantes estén presentes y lleguen a tiempo para comenzar el año con fuerza.

Asistencia estudiantil: La asistencia regular es fundamental para el éxito académico de su hijo/a en todos los niveles de grado. En Nueva Jersey, la asistencia diaria a la escuela es requerida por ley estatal. Por favor, asegúrese de que su hijo/a asista todos los días para apoyar su aprendizaje y desarrollo.
