Dear Speedway Avenue School Families,

Welcome back to another great year at Speedway Avenue School! I am the proud principal of the one and only, on-the-rise Speedway Avenue School. We are extremely proud of the accolades we achieved last year, and we are excited to continue soaring this year. With this in mind, our theme for the year is: “Good, Better, Best Phoenix—Put it to the Test!”

As principal, my ultimate goal is to ensure that every Speedway student receives the highest quality education possible in a safe and supportive learning environment. Supporting me in this work are our outstanding vice principals: Meghan Yergan (PK–2), Kelvin Henry (3–5), and Simone Heyward (6–8).

Your partnership is essential in this effort. You can help by:

• Sending your child to school on time every day
• Encouraging him or her to read at least 20 minutes every night
• Monitoring homework and academic progress
• Communicating frequently with your child’s teacher

New School Hours: 8:15 AM – 3:05 PM

Throughout the year, we will share school news and activities through our monthly calendar. Below are some important reminders and dates to note now.

First Day of School

The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. To ensure that learning begins on time, students should arrive by 8:15 AM at their assigned entrance area, wearing their full uniform. Students who arrive on time every day will be entered into monthly raffle drawings and invited to monthly celebrations. Designated staff will be present to help students find their line locations.

Summer Reading

Every student must complete the summer reading assignment. Books are available online, and assignments must be submitted on the first day of school. The summer assignment will count as the first grade of the school year. A test will be given toward the end of September, so parents should ensure their child completes both the reading and the assignment.

Uniform Policy

All students must wear uniforms every day.

• Daily uniform: Burgundy tops and gray bottoms
• Gym uniform: Burgundy or white shirts (t-shirt acceptable) and gray sweatpants
• Not permitted: Crocs, athletic slides, open-toe shoes, or Ugg slides
• Hoodies are allowed only if they are burgundy (school color)

The uniform policy will be strictly enforced.

Lunch Applications

Lunch applications must be completed for students to receive Chromebook agreements, attend school trips, and participate in other school functions. Applications can be accessed online or through our school website. Please keep your confirmation number for verification.

Important Dates

• Back to School Night: Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the school auditorium
• After-School Program & Tutoring: Begin in September (details forthcoming)
• Annual Welcome Back BBQ & Supply Giveaway: Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 3:00–5:00 PM. Supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch application and SchoolMint re-enrollment must be completed before entry.
