The Office of Bilingual Education has launched an exciting after-school professional development series designed to support teachers of multilingual learners across Newark’s school wards. Each ward will have the opportunity to participate in these sessions, ensuring educators citywide can access targeted support. The first session kicked off in the South/West Ward on February 3rd at Peshine Avenue School, led by Jennifer Killeen and Brian Temple, Supervisors from the Bilingual department. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Samantha Lott-Velez shared with participants how vital this work is in ensuring equitable access to education for all students. She emphasized that by strengthening instructional practices, educators can transform learning experiences, affirm students’ linguistic identities, and foster a more inclusive school community.
