The District’s recent initiative to install 1,300 air conditioners across Newark Public Schools is a significant step towards enhancing the learning environment for students. Currently, the Facilities department has installed 1,004 units as of September 9, 2024. The decision follows last year's extreme heat conditions, which highlighted the urgent need for climate control in classrooms. Providing a comfortable learning atmosphere for students is essential in improving academic performance. The installation of air conditioning units in all instructional spaces, including classrooms, libraries, and labs, aims to mitigate the adverse effects of high temperatures on student concentration and engagement.
With over 1000 units already installed and more on the way, the District is committed to ensuring that facilities meet the needs of students and staff. This project, funded by federal resources from the 2021 American Recovery Act, reflects NBOE’s dedication to addressing long-standing issues related to classroom conditions. The feedback from the community, including parents, students, and educators, has been invaluable in guiding efforts. By improving the physical environment of schools, the District can foster better educational outcomes and support students' overall well-being. NBOE remains focused on creating a conducive learning environment that empowers students to thrive academically and personally.
