District’s Head Start Program Hosts Annual Holiday Gift-Wrapping Event

Head Start, Social Service Technicians team up with D.A.D. Network to wrap more than 150 presents

NEWARK, N.J. – In what has become a holiday tradition, the District’s Head Start Program management team and social service technicians teamed up with volunteers from the D.A.D. (Dads Are Dynamic) Network to host their annual gift-wrapping event at the Avon Avenue School.

More than 150 gifts were wrapped and donated to various organizations. A key part of the event’s success was the participation of the D.A.D. Network – a group of fathers and other male role models that works to engage, empower, achieve, and promote excellence among men, families, schools, and communities.

“The Office of Early Childhood looks forward to hosting this special event each year.  Our District and Head Start program values the engagement of fathers as advocates, lifelong educators, and first teachers of their children,” said Marialana Juliano, Director of Early Childhood. “Male family members and father figures serve a key role in the lives of their children and families, and have much to enhance our school communities.

Superintendent León also commended the effort.

“This annual gift-wrapping event is a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion,” said Superintendent León. “Our Head Start Program team, our social service technicians, and the D.A.D. Network brought joy and comfort to children and families navigating difficult times. We are proud to have such dedicated partners uplifting our students and community.”

“This event exemplifies the spirit of service that strengthens our community,” said Board of Education President Hasani K. Council. “It is a great reminder of what can be achieved when we come together to support children and families in need. We are grateful for their ongoing efforts to spread joy and create lasting positive impacts.”
