During National School Bus Safety Week, held from October 21st to 25th, the Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) educated students about the importance of school bus safety. This nationwide initiative provided the transportation team a meaningful opportunity to raise awareness and engage students from Ridge Street, Branch Brook, John F. Kennedy, and Peshine Avenue schools through fun, hands-on activities focused on safety. The week was filled with learning, creativity, and, most importantly, a strong emphasis on safety, allowing students to participate in activities that were both entertaining and educational.
Each participating school brought enthusiasm to the week’s activities, including:
- Poster Contest: Students designed posters around the theme “Safety First – Safety Always.” The top entries will advance to the state level and compete in the National Association of Pupil Transportation’s national competition.
- “Our Bus Rides Better Because I Am on It”: Students shared their contributions to bus safety through creative artwork and essays.
- “Caught You Doing Good!”: OPT distributed giveaways to students who demonstrated safe and respectful behavior on the bus.
A special thank you to Ridge Street School for organizing an outstanding student parade and hosting a Thank You Breakfast to honor dedicated drivers and transportation staff. John F. Kennedy School also hosted an assembly to educate students on the importance of school bus safety and celebrate the week’s events.
Thank you to all participating schools for their exceptional efforts and dedication, making this an unforgettable week focused on promoting school bus safety!
