Student Development in SEL and College Readiness

To advance student success and to close equity gaps, the Office of Student Life (OSL) continues to provide innovative experiences and encourage student development in the areas of academics, college and career readiness, and social emotional outcomes.

This summer, all seventeen summer learning sites received SEL lessons and extension activities. To foster college & career readiness and support the NBOE FAFSA/NJAFAA graduation requirement, 7th graders from fifteen summer school sites toured a college or university. OSL partnered with the Newark City Learning Collaborative, Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Essex County College, Montclair State University, Saint Elizabeth University, and Bloomfield College to expose students to admissions requirements, the application process, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and campus life.
