The District hosted a lively celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month at First Avenue Elementary School on Oct. 3rd, which fostered a sense of community through a remarkable exhibition of unity and cultural appreciation. The event was graced by the presence of Superintendent Roger León, Board President Hasani K. Council, Newark Board of Education (NBOE) members, district staff, community leaders, parents, and school personnel. A standout moment of the evening was a mesmerizing performance by the Arts High School Latin Band, whose energetic rhythms enlivened the atmosphere of the festivities. The gathering exemplified the District’s dedication to embracing diversity, recognizing the significant contributions of Hispanic culture, and reinforcing the bond between home, school, and the community.
The celebration also included a special performance of “El Quijote” by Repertorio Español de Nueva York, which brought the classic Spanish narrative to life with creativity and passion. Clad in vibrant costumes, the performers enchanted the audience with their interpretations of the cherished characters, adding a distinctive cultural element to the evening. Additionally, the event showcased traditional cuisine and featured inspiring addresses from NBOE and community leaders, all aimed at fostering cultural awareness and pride.
