More than 110 Spanish and Portuguese District staff members recently underwent the STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency (STAMP) Language Proficiency Test. This comprehensive assessment measures listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiency and ensures educators can effectively communicate with and support families. By prioritizing language skills, the District aims to foster an inclusive environment where all families can engage with the educational system and feel confident in their children’s academic journey.
Looking ahead, the Newark Board of Education (NBOE) plans to expand its language support services by testing additional staff members in the coming months. This initiative will include qualifications for translators in Mandarin, Russian, French, and Haitian Creole. By broadening the linguistic capabilities of its staff, the District emphasizes its commitment to ensuring that all families, regardless of language barriers, receive the resources and support they need to thrive in the school community.
