Grammy-winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari brought her inspiring “Symphony of Brotherhood” program to Newark Vocational High School. In celebration of Black History Month, this unique event blended the powerful sounds of Hip Hop and Gospel music with a strong message of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ben-Ari, known for her collaborations with artists like John Legend and Kanye West, performed on a violin that survived the Holocaust, adding a profound historical element to the performance. The program aimed to combat hate, racism, antisemitism, and bullying, and it resonated deeply with the students who were actively engaged throughout the event.
The visit was not just a musical performance, but a comprehensive educational experience. Ben-Ari’s program included interactive exercises, a Q&A session, and a call-to-action campaign, all designed to promote harmony and understanding among diverse communities. Students participated enthusiastically, singing along and even learning some phrases in Hebrew. The event highlighted the power of music as a universal language that can bridge cultural divides and foster a more inclusive environment.
