Superintendent León reminded attendees that the recognition reflects both individual excellence and the collective strength of Newark’s teaching force.
“When we recognize every single one of you, it does not go without noticing that there are other teachers in every school working at this same level,” Superintendent León said. “It is the collective genius of all of our teachers that is essential to helping students grow into successful, caring members of society.”
Board of Education President Hasani K. Council congratulated all of the honorees, noting that their impact extends far beyond classroom instruction.
“Each of you has a lasting impact on the lives of your students, not only through the lessons you teach, but through the encouragement, support, and inspiration you provide every single day,” Council said. “You go above and beyond to create meaningful learning experiences, build strong relationships, and help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.”
During the event, Dr. Farah Ramezanzadeh, who teaches AP Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics, was recognized as the Newark Public Schools District Teacher of the Year.

New Jersey State Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz, a longtime advocate for Newark’s students and schools, praised the teachers for the vital role they play in shaping the next generation.
“This room is America,” Senator Ruiz said. “You teach love, compassion, and humanity. When we focus on those values and build the next generation in those spaces, there will be more understanding, more opportunity, and more academic success. Thank you for your love, your passion, and your purpose.”
Congresswoman Analilia Mejia also offered her congratulations through a pre-recorded video message.
“Every doctor, nurse, engineer, and even Congress member begins with a teacher,” Congresswoman Mejia said. “Your work shapes lives, strengthens families, and helps build the future of Newark.”
