The Office of Health, PE and Athletics proudly joined the nation in celebrating the remarkable achievements of girls and women in sports, particularly those in our own district. On Wednesday, February 26th, Weequahic High School once again served as the host site for our 3rd Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

The event featured an inspiring awards brunch recognizing the outstanding female student-athletes, dedicated coaches and alumni who have made a lasting impact on Newark Public Schools athletics. These honorees exemplify perseverance, leadership and excellence, qualities that continue to inspire the next generation of student-athletes in the district. We are especially proud that female student-athletes from all sixteen high schools offering sports for girls were represented, a first in our program’s history. Additionally, six female alumni from various high schools were honored with the “Pay it Forward” award for returning to the district to coach.  Congratulations once again to all the honorees.
