Elementary school chess players from NBOE faced off in friendly competition at the District’s Office of Extended Learning Chess Tournament held at Central High School. Chess Teacher Rilwan Ameen encouraged students to focus on the lessons and not the trophies they could potentially take from the three-round tournament.
The winners of the Grade 3 to 5 section were:

2nd Place: Leyker Liriano, Grade 5, Dr. William H. Horton School
3rd Place: Ryan Vega, Grade 5, Dr. William H. Horton School
The winners of the Grade 6 to 8 section were:
1st Place: Karas Rezk. Grade 7, Hawthorne Avenue School
2nd Place: Oluwafikayomi George, Grade 7, Hawthorne Avenue School
3rd Place: Cesar Sotamba, Grade 6, Abington Avenue School
