The Newark Board of Education Presents the Brick City Showdown High School Basketball Classic 2023

[Newark, NJ – December 7, 2023] The highly anticipated Newark Board of Education (NBOE) Brick City Showdown High School Basketball Classic 2023 is set to take place from December 15 - 17, at Essex County College in Newark, N.J.  This prestigious event aims to bring together the best basketball talent from high schools in the Newark area, as well as some renowned high schools at the national level.

With the invaluable support of esteemed partners, including the Newark Board of Education, Superintendent Roger León, Prudential Financial, City of Newark, Mayor Ras J Baraka, Patrick O. Council Civic Association, Essex County College, and the Greater Newark CVB, the Newark Board of Education Brick City Showdown High School Basketball Classic 2023 is poised to become an outstanding success.

The primary mission of the classic is to showcase the exceptional skills of these young athletes, promote sportsmanship, and provide a platform for personal growth and community engagement. The organizers are dedicated to creating a competitive and inclusive environment, where athletes can shine, fans can cheer, and the values of respect and teamwork are celebrated. The aim is to inspire and unite individuals from all walks of life, fostering a love for the game and leaving a lasting impact on the community.

In addition to the thrilling basketball action, The Newark Board of Education Brick City Showdown High School Basketball Classic 2023 is also proud to announce that all proceeds generated from this event will be dedicated towards providing scholarships for high school boys and girls basketball players.  By supporting this showcase, attendees and sponsors will directly contribute to the educational and athletic development of deserving student-athletes.

The NBOE Brick City High School Basketball Classic 2023 is thrilled to welcome 30 high schools to participate in this exciting showcase.  Among them are notable institutions such as Roselle Catholic, The Patrick School, Bergen Catholic, Saint Peter’s Prep, St. Benedict’s, Linden, Elizabeth and Saint Frances Academy from Baltimore, M.D. This diverse group of schools will undoubtedly provide a captivating and highly competitive event for basketball enthusiasts.
