NEWARK, N.J. – Superintendent León, Board of Education President Hasani K. Council, and the members of the Board of Education released the following statement today on the recent passing of former Newark City Council President Mildred C. Crump.
“The Honorable Mildred C. Crump will forever be remembered for her boundless care, kindness, and generosity. A true mentor to all who had the privilege of knowing her, she selflessly shared her wisdom, compassion, and guidance with everyone she encountered with her unwavering dedication to justice. Council President Crump left an indelible mark on those she served as she tirelessly worked to promote equality, uplift our communities, and inspire others to follow her example of selfless leadership. Her legacy will continue to resonate with us and remind us all of the power of empathy, integrity, and the importance of lifting others as we rise.
The passing of the Honorable Mildred C. Crump impacts the city of Newark and the Newark Public Schools, as she was one of our incredible teachers of the blind who tirelessly devoted herself to our students, staff, and administration. We mourn with the Crump family.”
