Back in August of 2023, Wilson Avenue School experienced a devastating fire that left the multi-purpise room and offices in ruins. The Facilities department immediately sprang into action to begin the task of cleaning and restoring the school in time for the return of students from summer recess. The Parent Liaison room, which was the heart of communication between parents and staff, bore the brunt of the damage.
Upon inspection by the department's environmental team, it was discovered that the room contained asbestos-containing materials (ACM) that needed to be safely abated before any renovations could take place. The process of removing the asbestos posed a significant challenge due to strict regulations and restrictions on the handling of such hazardous materials.
Despite these obstacles, the Wilson Ave School community remained resilient and cooperative throughout the lengthy renovation process. After thirteen months of hard work and dedication, the Parent Liaison room was finally fully renovated and furnished, ready to once again serve as a vital hub for the school community.
The transformed space now stands as a testament to the perseverance and determination of all those involved in the restoration efforts. It embodies the spirit of unity and collaboration that defines the Wilson Ave School family, and will continue to be a welcoming and functional space for students, staff, and parents for many years to come.
