The Newark Board of Education, Office of Special Education (OSE), celebrated its 8th Annual Autism Acceptance Kickoff on April 2, 2026, on World Autism Day, with the theme “Level Up Friendships – Autism Acceptance.” The initiative encouraged students, staff, and families to take meaningful steps toward creating more inclusive, understanding, and supportive school communities for individuals with autism.
The celebration included “Leveling Up Friendships – Autism Acceptance Walls,” school-based inclusive activities pairing autism program classes with general education peers, and opportunities for students to build friendships centered on acceptance and belonging. OSE also provided an April Autism Calendar and Parent/Caregiver On-Demand Workshops with resources focused on communication, behavior, safety, independence, and supporting students with autism.
