Newark Public Schools Hosts Advanced Placement Summer Institute

NEWARK, N.J. – More than 80 teachers are participating in an Advanced Placement Summer Institute hosted by Newark Public Schools this week in collaboration with the College Board.

The intensive, 30-hour professional development program prepares high school teachers who teach or plan to teach Advanced Placement courses. A total of 83 teachers registered for training in AP English Literature and Composition, AP Precalculus, AP Spanish Language and Culture, AP Chemistry, and AP Seminar.

Newark Public Schools opened the institute to teachers from other school districts throughout Essex County, expanding access to high-quality professional learning and supporting rigorous academic opportunities for students across the region.

“Expanding Advanced Placement opportunities begins with ensuring that teachers have the training, resources and support they need to deliver rigorous, college-level instruction,” Superintendent León said. “By hosting this institute in Newark, with the College Board’s incredible teachers and trainers leading and teaching our very own, we are strengthening classroom instruction and helping more students prepare for success in college and beyond.
