NJDOE Declares Newark Public Schools a High Performing District

New Jersey’s State Board of Education unanimously affirms declaration

NEWARK, N.J. – The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has informed the Newark Public Schools that the district has satisfied the weighted indicators in all five areas of the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC) review process and has been designated a high performing district.

NJ Department of Education LogoUpon the recommendation of Commissioner Lily Laux, the New Jersey State Board of Education certified Newark Public Schools as providing a thorough and efficient system of education. The New Jersey State Board of Education’s decision was unanimous.

“Well, let’s look at this here. We are not entertained or distracted by noise,” said Superintendent León. “We stay the course, remain focused, and continue to improve results.”

“We have been working so hard for this moment, and it has arrived,” said Board of Education President Hasani K. Council. “I want to commend Superintendent León, his entire leadership team, principals, teachers, instructional and non-instructional staff, and our parents and their children."

Superintendent León added “We are grateful to Essex County Superintendent Joseph Zarra for his leadership and support, as well as his respective staff for their assistance and support. This accomplishment is credited to the executive staff, principals, school leaders, teachers, and the instructional staff at the schools and in the central office. We are indebted to the parents, guardians, advocates, and children of the Newark Public Schools who believe in us as we believe in them.”
