Uniform Policy
Dear Parents & Students,
All Newark Board of Education students (Pre-K to 12th Grade) are required to wear school uniforms. School Uniforms enhance school safety, promote school pride, create a sense of unity amongst students, improve the learning environment, bridge socioeconomic differences between children, promote good behavior, improve children’s self-respect and self-esteem and produce cost savings for participating families.
The Weequahic High School Uniform Policy is non-negotiable and must be followed. The school uniforms must be worn Monday-Thursday, no exceptions. Fridays are now “Casual Friday” at Weequahic. Even on Fridays, students must still be dressed appropriately. Please remember that this dressed-down day is a privilege and can be taken away. Anything outside of the school uniform is against our uniform policy. Students who are found breaking the dress code are asked to turn in their cell phone to the Principal until the end of the school day and are to report to IP Reset (After-school Detention).
GUIDELINES
Students will wear uniforms in their respective school colors: ORANGE, BROWN & WHITE. Clothing must be sized to fit the student. Pants and skirts should fit appropriately and should not be too tight or too loose. Shirts should be appropriate size and should not extend below the hip. It is acceptable for students with special religious beliefs and/or special needs or extenuating circumstances to wear head coverings.
Hoodies, Crocs and Ugg slippers are not allowed.
Educationally Yours,
Principal Thomas
