Welcome Back
Welcome Back
August 12, 2021
Dear Parents/Guardians,
PEACE and welcome to another school year at Weequahic High School, “Where Achievement is Realistic, Obtainable & Infinite.” On behalf of our administrative team and dedicated staff of educators, we are excited to open our doors for the 2021-2022 school year. The educational growth and development of our youth are paramount and drives our transformational quest for excellence. As the new principal, my goal is to motivate, inspire and lead our entire school community to ensure that we focus on our 3 goals:
- Improve Student Attendance & Increase Enrollment
- Improve Student Academic Performance & Graduation Rate
- Increase Parent & Community Involvement
When schools, parents, families, and communities work together to support learning, students attend school regularly, earn higher grades and enroll in post-secondary education and career path opportunities. We need your full support this school year. With this in mind, please take a look at the chart below:

We are extremely excited to develop meaningful relationships to support the academic and social-emotional growth of our WHS students. To ensure that all children are healthy, happy, and safe, we need all stakeholders to follow the CDC, NJ state and Newark district guidelines designed in the safe return plan. Visit this link to see the Newark Board of Education Safe Return plan. Everyone reporting to the school building and school grounds (this includes student drop off and pick up) is required to wear a face covering and follow CDC guidelines for social distancing, 6 ft. apart, at all times to protect the safety of everyone.
In closing, it is extremely important that you check your email and text messages for special alerts and notifications about the upcoming school year. Please ensure that the school has your most current email and cell phone contact information. Please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns at 973-705-3795 or check our school website www.nps.k12.nj.us/weq.
Intellectual Prominence…Infinite Power…Indian Pride! Go Orange & Brown! Proper Education Always Corrects Errors.
Sincerely,
Principal Thomas

South Ward Thanksgiving Turkey & Warm Coat Giveaway
South Ward Thanksgiving Turkey & Warm Coat Giveaway
November 25, 2020
On Saturday, November 21st, 2020, Weequahic High School and Chancellor Avenue School partnered to plan a Thanksgiving Turkey & Warm Coat Giveaway took place at Untermann Field.
Principal Pitts of Chancellor Avenue School noted "We managed to give out: turkeys, new warm coats, fresh fruits/veggies, Tropicana juice products, "Beyond Meat" for Vegans/Vegetarians, Muslims and/or those looking for healthy food options - Supported the Community with Medicaid/Medicare Sign-up, and Free COVID Testing."
It was truly an amazing and well-organized event. Thank You to the Newark Police Department who managed a safe event consisting of safety measures inline with Social Distancing.
We would like to thank the many sponsors and partners who supported us in making this event a success. We look forward to planning more events of this magnitude to spread the love and resources beyond our individual school communities.
