Speedway Pre-K: Free, High-Quality Early Learning for Newark 3- and 4-Year-Olds
Speedway Avenue School proudly offers Pre-K in partnership with Newark Public Schools and community providers. Families receive the academic, health, and family supports that prepare children for kindergarten and beyond.
Who’s Eligible?
- Newark residents whose child turns 3 or 4 by October 1 of the school year.
- Pre-K is tuition-free at district schools and approved partners.

Head Start (Ages 3–5)
The Head Start programs support children's growth from age 3 to 5 through services centered around early learning and development, health, and family well-being. Head Start staff actively engage parents and recognize family participation throughout the program as key to strong child outcomes. Head Start services are available at no cost to children. Head Start preschool (Pre-K) services work with children ages 3 to 5 and their families.

New! Newark Saves — College Savings for Kindergartners
Newark Public Schools launched Newark Saves to open college savings accounts for incoming kindergarten students, including a seed deposit and opportunities for additional incentives through family engagement and student milestones.
Although Newark Saves starts in kindergarten, Speedway Pre-K families are encouraged to explore college-going resources early. Learn more at newarksaves.org.

My name is Ms. Johnson, and I am proud to serve as the Social Services Technician for Head Start at Speedway Avenue School. I have been a dedicated employee of the Speedway family for the past six years. I began my journey here as a classroom paraprofessional and transitioned into my current role two years ago.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Social Work and am currently pursuing my Doctoral Degree in Organizational Leadership, with a focus on managing mental health capacity in children and adolescents.
