At Speedway Avenue School, we believe that learning goes beyond the classroom. Our wide variety of extracurricular activities allows students to explore their passions, develop leadership skills, and apply what they’ve learned in meaningful, real-world contexts. These opportunities are an essential part of a well-rounded education and help our Phoenix students shine both academically and socially.

EXCEL Afterschool Program

The EXCEL Afterschool Program provides engaging and meaningful learning opportunities for students in Pre-K through 8th grade across 42 schools in the Newark Board of Education.

Running from September through June, the program combines academic tutoring with a wide variety of enrichment activities designed to support the whole child. Students can explore and grow through activities such as:

  • 🧘 Yoga & Mindfulness

  • ♟️ Chess

  • 🎨 Art & Creative Projects

  • 🔬 STEM Exploration

  • 📚 Book Club

  • ⚽ Sports & Team Activities
    ...and much more!

📘 Tutoring Program

The Speedway Tutoring Program provides extra academic support for students in Grades K–8 to help them strengthen skills and build confidence.

⏰ Schedule

  • Morning Sessions: 7:30 AM – 8:10 AM

  • Afternoon Sessions: 3:15 PM – 4:15 PM

  • Days: Monday through Friday
