The Law & Public Safety Academy will provide an outstanding opportunity for students to prepare for careers in planning, managing, and providing legal, public safety, and protective services, including professional and technical support services.

  • Law

    • Learn the basic components of what constitutes a crime and how crimes are investigated and tried, including distinguishing between misdemeanors and felonies as well as the adult and juvenile offender process.
    • Learn the basic components of tort, consumer, housing and family law, including an examination of the legal theories and philosophies that underlie these areas of the law.
    • Obtain a practical understanding of constitutional law and how the issues addressed by cases involving the U.S. Constitution impact society in general as well as our individual daily lives.

    • Learn the logical & systematic operation of the criminal justice system in the United States. Learn what the three agencies of the criminal justice system: law enforcement agencies, juvenile courts and adult criminal/civil courts, & corrections do and how they function.
    • Learn the hierarchy of law enforcement agencies in the state of New Jersey.
    • Learn the fundamental duties, philosophies, obligations, and influences inherent with being a New Jersey law enforcement or corrections officer.
    • Learn the different agency’s purpose of organization, chains of command, rules, and regulations. Participate in innovative in-service training through field trips to various agencies.
