Dr. Jose Aviles
Principal
Dear Parent and Guardian(s):
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! It is with much enthusiasm that I have the privilege of serving as your principal. I am very excited about the school year and its potential. I look forward to working with every member of our school community as well as continuing to build on the successes of our previous school year.
As a result of the unforeseen circumstances surrounding Covid-19, I know many of you have questions and concerns. We will implement an A/B schedule, where half of our student population will report to school on A days, while the other half of our student population remain home for remote learning on B days. Parents will also have the option to have their students attend Barringer High School virtually 100 percent of the time. Please visit our website at https://www.nps.k12.nj.us/barringer/ . I assure you I will follow every precaution and guideline to ensure student safety. Our building is sanitized every day and for those students that report to school, face coverings will be provided. We will leave no stone unturned.
I cannot emphasize enough my concern and dedication to all of our students. I am committed to ensuring that every student will have a strong academic foundation that equips them for success in college and countless post-secondary endeavors. Hence, I am strongly committed to ensuring that every student has the support, motivation and quality instruction they need to meet and exceed Common Core State Standards.
The first day back of school is Tuesday, September 8, 2020, and I have exciting academic plans for all of our students. We are offering a more robust college to career curriculum, such as offering Essex County College Core courses at Barringer, music and video technology, carpentry, cyber security and JROTC, and creating co-curricular activities such as the Blue Bear ambassadors, dance, step, student council and peer mentoring to name a few. We are also starting a social justice initiative addressing issues such as police brutality, systemic racism, the industrial prison complex and immigration law, which will promote self advocacy through action. We will continue to improve our comprehensive support and intervention programs in order to help all students achieve academic excellence and overcome obstacles. Our school will continue to ensure a safe, nurturing and positive learning environment that will promote the social and emotional growth of every student.
In this regard, our staff and administrators will continue to foster and strengthen partnerships with every parent/guardian. Moreover, our staff will provide consistent opportunities for parents to play a vital role in their child’s education and provide us with feedback to help our school improve.
I look forward to a wonderful school year and serving all stakeholders to ensure the success of our students. Because Dr. Aviles and his staff are here to serve you
Sincerely,
Jose Aviles, Ed. D.
