About Our School
August 9, 2024
Dear Malcolm X Shabazz Family,
Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year. As we embark on this new academic journey, we are reminded of the Yoruba proverb, “Ile ni a nwo ki a to so omo l’oruko,” which means, “We must consider the home before naming the child.” This reflects our collective responsibility to nurture and guide our students, ensuring they thrive within a supportive community.
To our returning students, we are thrilled to have you back. And to our new Bilingual students joining us, we extend a heartfelt welcome.
As your Principal, I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to continue creating a teaching and learning environment centered around academic and personal growth that builds upon the rich history of Academic and Athletic Excellence at Malcolm X Shabazz High School. The 2024-25 School Year is one where all stakeholders will be directed to transform students, according to our Four Pillars of Excellence, into:
- Individuals who cultivate original ideas that add value to society.
- Individuals who are cultured in that he/she looks to history and assesses his/her present to create a better society.
- Individuals who value community and will do something that makes belonging matter.
- Individuals who are cooperative and will create positive relationships and partnerships to benefit society.
I wholeheartedly invite every student, faculty, and staff member to embrace the Bulldog spirit—standing tall in Black and Gold with pride. You are not just walking through any school; you are part of a legacy, treading the same halls where celebrities, professional athletes, and leaders once dreamed big and achieved greatness.
Our journey together this year hinges on strong communication and active involvement. To stay connected and informed, I strongly encourage you to follow us on social media and regularly visit our website, which is updated weekly. Here, you’ll find everything you need to navigate the school year—important dates, teacher contacts, and information on clubs, sports, and teams that are ready to welcome your participation.

Shabazz in the News
Great things are happening in our schools every day. Yesterday, a crew from WABC Eyewitness News visited Malcolm X Shabazz High School just a couple of days before the football team’s first state championship football game. What they found was that the students were winning in the classrooms as well as the football field. They spoke with the school’s principal, Dr. Atiba Buckman, Head Football Coach Naz Oliver, and a few students. Hear them tell their story about how MXS Bulldogs are […]

The Malcolm X Shabazz boys’ soccer team has secured its inaugural Southeastern Conference (SEC) title in the Freedom Division, representing a significant achievement for the program. Under the leadership of Head Coach Jason Hernould, along with Assistant Coaches Roy Muriel and Jayme Alves, the team demonstrated outstanding skill and perseverance throughout the season.
