Effective School Year 2020-2021, all Employees (Permanent or Per-Diems) must re-apply for their position as Coach, Advisor or Co-Curricular/After-School Personnel. Employees holding any Co-Curricular titles MUST have either a Teaching Certification or a valid Substitute Certification (with the exception of Treasurers). If a potential Co-Curricular employee does not hold a Teaching Certification or a valid Substitute Certification, they must provide the following in order to obtain a Substitute Certification:
- A $125.00 check or money order made payable to the “Commissioner of Education, Trenton, NJ”.
- (2) Official college transcripts from a Regionally Accredited College confirming that at least 60 college credits were completed.
- Fingerprints must be archived to indicate “Substitute Teacher” (https://www.nj.gov/education/crimhist/).
- Completed Substitute Credential Application and Notarized Oath of Allegiance.

HOW TO RECOMMEND A CANDIDATE:
Process to Hire Internally:
The Coach, Advisor or Co-Curricular/After-School Activities application will need to be completed. The form must be completed for ALL locations who will or has employees working in the Coach, Advisor or Co-Curricular and After-School Activities positions.
Process to Hire Externally:
Qualified candidates must apply by visiting "Job Opportunities" on the Newark Board of Education website, and apply to Job ID #24511 titled “Coach/Advisor-Athletics & Co-Curricular Activities”. Once the candidate successfully submits the online application, ALL required documents (see list below) will need to be submitted in PDF format by the Principal or Athletic Director. Once the submission is received and reviewed by HRS, an offer letter along with the employment packet will be sent to the candidate via email.

Process to Hire Volunteers:
All Volunteers are required to undergo the New Jersey Department of Education Criminal History fingerprint process. Please visit this website https://nj.gov/education/crimhist/ for instructions. All volunteer information must be submitted through this Google survey. The submission must include a PDF version of the criminal history approval letter.
Please Note: No one should be allowed to work in any of these capacities without a submission, Board Approval and proper certification if applicable.
