Admission to AHHS
American History High School is committed to recruiting highly motivated young adults from all neighborhoods in Newark. It is our goal to provide our students with a rigorous and engaging curriculum that fosters the interest in social justice and democracy for all. To ensure the individual success of students at American History High School, we consider the results of a writing assessment, a math assessment and recent standardized assessment scores. We seek to admit scholars who are committed to their academic success and who have sincere interest in social justice activism.
How to Apply
You must complete the following requirements:
- Newark Enrolls application
- Writing assessment during a virtual session (must use a device with a camera)
- Math assessment during a virtual session (must use a device with a camera)
- Submit most recent report card
- Submit attendance records
Click Register Now to register your child for an assessment. Prior to the assessment date, students should have sent to the school the following:
The following is required of all students who apply to American History High School
- A grade point average of 80% or above
- A score of ‘proficient’ or ‘advanced proficient’ on state assessment exams
- No more than 10 unexcused absences or 10 tardies for the previous school year
- Completion of the AHHS math and writing assessment
