Principal’s Message

Hello Shabazz Family,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year.  I hope you and your families had a fun and relaxing summer.

During this academic year, I see the outstanding professional educators here at Malcolm X Shabazz High School continuing to improve instructional practices to ensure every student is provided a relevant and purposeful education.  Our efforts should be designed to prepare our students for college and careers, while developing their social competencies thus enabling them to become contributing members of society.

We will continue to focus on the 4 A’s of success; Attendance, Attitude, Academics and Achievement.  This focus, coupled with improved data driven decisions, has led to academic gains in literacy and math and an increased graduation rate.    However, we have a long way to go before we become the premier academic institution Shabazz is destined to be.  It is imperative that our students attend school on time every day, come to school prepared to learn, read at least one hour every day at home, and practice the concepts taught in class when away from the Shabazz hallways.  It will take a community effort to sustain our focus which means we must reach out to parents and the community to become active participants in our students’ learning.

It continues to be my honor to serve as your principal.  I remain committed to ensuring that Malcolm X Shabazz High School becomes the pinnacle of student academic growth in Newark.  This institution of learning will continue to grow through collaboration, hard work, and an unyielding belief that every student can achieve academic success and graduate prepared for the next chapter of their lives.  Our students are our future and we are responsible for preparing them to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Once again, welcome back!  Let’s make it another great year together.
