Principal
I am proud to serve as the founding principal of The Newark School of Architecture and Interior Design. Newark is home, and my journey began right here, where I attended Wilson Avenue School before moving to Portugal during my childhood. Growing up between the United States and Portugal gave me a deep appreciation for language, culture, and the transformative power of education.
In 2005, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Modern Languages and Literature English and German Studies from the University of Coimbra in Portugal, where I also completed coursework in Dutch. After teaching for one year in Portugal, I returned to the United States and began working with the Newark Board of Education as a substitute teacher at East Side High School in March 2007. By September of that year, I was hired as a full-time English teacher and I remained until June 2013.
I earned my Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton in 2012, and the following year, I was honored to be promoted to Vice Principal at Technology High School, where I served as Academic Vice Principal until June 2025. During my time at Technology, I supported department chairs, teachers, and students with strategies that were data-focused and led to measurable student achievement. The school was recognized for its exceptional growth and performance, earning from the U.S. Department of Education the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School award in October 2023, which I proudly accepted in Washington, D.C., alongside Superintendent Roger León and Principal Edwin Reyes.
Over my teaching career, I have taught English, German, and Portuguese, and I have taken courses in Spanish, Dutch, and French. Currently, I am learning Arabic. This lifelong passion for languages reflects my deep love for communication and connection across cultures.
Beyond education, I enjoy traveling with my family, exploring different cultures, and continuing to grow as a learner. Real estate is another passion of mine, and I have gained experience in various areas within the field. I bring that knowledge and entrepreneurial mindset into my role as a school leader, aiming to inspire students to explore diverse pathways to success.
It is a true honor to lead a school that celebrates creativity, innovation, and design. I look forward to building a dynamic community where students are empowered, supported, and prepared to shape the world.
