Communtiy Engagement Specialist
As the Home-to-School Connection Person it is the CES's job to ensure that parents are always informed as to what is going on in the school. The CES is your contact person should you want to come in and serve as a “Parent Volunteer.” Please contact her should you have concerns regarding school related issues or if you need assistance with community resources and/or programs connected to the school.

Attendance Officer
Regular attendance is a prerequisite for the success of the student in his or her academic endeavors that will also pave the way for the future success in higher education and in employment. Good and regular attendance should be viewed as a constructive habit that when formed early, will become difficult to break. The Attendance Officer ensures that students adhere to the guidelines and policies that the district and state has adopted for attendance.

Social Worker
The Social Worker provides individual, group counseling and class presentations. Outside organizations such as Main Street Counseling and the Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Program are utilized as school wide resources. Social Worker II’s also conduct professional training and development to staff around current relevant issues such as suicide awareness, and policies on bullying, teasing and harassment.

Child Study Team
The Child Study Team is responsible for the evaluation, development and monitoring of special education students and their programs at Mount Vernon School. The multidisciplinary team provides consultation and support to parents, staff and students to facilitate academic and behavioral success for all children.

Security Guards
The security guards at the school are committed to keeping order, securing the building and protecting the total school community. Procedures are in place for entering and leaving the building, monthly fire drills, lockdowns and general school emergencies. The security guards work with the district’s security team and the Newark Police to ensure a safe haven for students and staff at Mount Vernon.

Custodial Staff
The maintenance of a school building is vital to the well being of the entire school community. Our day and evening custodial staff monitors all building operations and provides general maintenance to insure that Mount Vernon is a clean, safe environment for learning.

Food Services
Chartwell is the food services vendor at Mount Vernon. They are responsible for preparation and service of the breakfast and lunch meals at the school. In addition, the staff provides meals for the After School Programs and alternative meals; such as bag lunches for field trips and school excursions.
Breakfast will be served in the classroom for the first 10 minutes of every school day. Lunch hours are from 10:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Lunch applications must be completed online at www.schoollunchapp.com. To pay, sign up at www.mypaymentsplus.com as payment is not accepted in the cafeteria.
