Art Club

  • Advisor: Mrs. Latia Pope

The Art Club is a place for practicing artists in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades to develop their creative skills and techniques. Art club members also have the opportunity to build their portfolios and collaborate with other artists like themselves. We also strive to work with the school community through group projects that will beautify and enhance the school and environment.

Art club will meet on Fridays from 3:10pm to 4:30pm in Room 174 (art room).

 

Project Lead the Way: Gateway Club

  • Advisor: Mr. Omar Scafe

Description: Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is a nonprofit organization that offers STEM-focused programs for students in kindergarten through 12 grade.  PLTW's programs are designed to prepare students for the global workforce by providing hands-on learning experiences and real-world applications.

Safety Patrol

  • Advisor: Mr. Stephen Lalande

Description: Safety protrols promote safe practices: Safety patrol members promote safe practices when students arrive at school, go to class, and leave school.

Debate Team

  • Advisor: Ms. Kelly Marquis

Description:

Debate Club is a fun way for students to hone critical thinking and public speaking skills during the school year. Students work with other debaters of their same age and experience level where they practice debate skills and prep cases on current relevant topics.

Students will participate in 5 tournaments (in-person) competitions. The location will take place at a Newark Public School High School. 

Topic:  The US federal government should significantly strengthen its protection of domestic intellectual property by expanding patent laws.

Cheer Dance Team

  • Advisor: Ms. Cindy Nicholson

The first annual Cheer Dance Team was developed at the school in the 2013-2014 school year. The team is currently composed of 20 students in grades 5-8.

The MVS  Cheer Team provides school spirit support for the school's girls and boys basketball teams during the elementary basketball season in the Spring.

Yearbook

  • Advisor: Mr. S. Lalande

Description: Our 8th grade yearbook club will work together to create a yearbook with photos and information to commemorate the years spent at Mt. Vernon.
