School Counselor
The School Counselor of Hawthorne Avenue School is Ms. Tamara Stewart. In collaboration with Administration, Parents and the Community, it is the goal of our School Counselor to ensure the goals and needs of the “whole” student (academically, socially and emotionally) are achieved.
How do School Counselors help our students? Counselors help students in a myriad of ways to achieve their best selves.
We do this by advocating for and providing various services:
- Providing strategies on conflict resolution
- Offering alternatives to problem solving
- Meet with students, teachers and parents on how to assist with reaching their academic and social goals
- Coordinate and facilitate school programs and events
- Make referrals to community resources
- Facilitate small group sessions
- Facilitate classroom group sessions
- Restorative practices/strategies
Counselors also provide support during tough times:
- Bereavement /Loss
- Depression
- Alcohol or other Drug Abuse
- Sexuality
Counselors empower students to achieve their greatest potential by helping them:
- Become more confident
- Resist peer pressure
- Deal with stress
- Make the most out of school
- Long term planning for entering public and private high schools
- College Readiness
