We all know how important literacy is by third grade-that's why I was proud to secure funding to support The Newark Literacy Movement initiative. We're thrilled to continue this exciting effort for a second year! I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Newark Public Schools and the Superintendent for helping to bring the gift of reading to our community. We hope you and your family enjoy this special time together through the joy of reading!

It's time to "Sparkle and Shine"! The first day of school is on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
On behalf of the Salomé Ureña school community, it is my pleasure to welcome both our returning and new families to Salomé Ureña Elementary School.
We are excited to begin another year of learning on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Students are expected to arrive before 8:15am.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Your partnership is one of our greatest strengths and we are grateful to work alongside you.
We cannot wait to welcome our STARS back into the building and continue making Salomé Ureña a place where every child can truly "Sparkle and Shine"!

Dear Salomé Ureña Elementary School Community,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! We remain dedicated to academic excellence, innovation, school safety, and creating an inclusive environment for all. Our top priority is meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of every student. We inspire them to be STARS by Showing Kindness, Taking Responsibility, Acting Safely, Respecting Everyone, and Staying Positive.
Student Attendance: Regular attendance is essential for your child’s academic success at every grade level. In New Jersey, daily school attendance is required by state law. Please make sure your child is present each day to support their learning and progress.
Mandatory Uniform: All Newark Board of Education students (PreK to Grade 12) are required to wear school uniforms. Shirts: Navy Blue Collared Shirt Pants/Skirts: Khaki (Beige) or Navy Blue Shoes: Shoes must be securely fastened. Crocs, clogs, flip-flops, and bedroom/house slippers are not permitted. Physical Education Attire: Navy blue sweatpants with a gold or navy blue shirt Shoes: Sneakers ONLY
