FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is eligible to attend Newark Evening?

Students must be 18 years old or older, proof of residency within the City of Newark, New Jersey and officially withdrawn from school.

What courses are offered at Newark Evening? 

Newark Evening has two (2) tracks: High School Diploma and General Educational Development (GED).  If you are applying for the high school diploma track, students must provide an official copy of their transcripts.  Our guidance counselors will audit students' transcripts in order to determine what classes will be needed to earn a high school diploma.  With regards to the GED track, Newark Evening prepares students to take the GED examination.  However, Newark Evening does not administer the GED examination.

Newark Evening is a remote program

What days and times are classes held?

Newark Evening offers classes during the Fall and Spring semesters.  Classes are held Mondays thru Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 8:20 pm.

How do students register?

Newark Evening has online registration. Registration periods are posted on our website.

 What documentation is needed for registration?

If applying for the High School diploma track, students must provide an official copy of their school transcript from the last school attended.

All students must complete a Newark Board of Education - Home Language Survey.  And, students must provide documentation of the following immunizations:

  • DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis)
  • Polio Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella (Chickenpox)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Meningococcal
  • Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria acellular pertussis)
  • Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b)
