Student actors, artists, dancers, and musicians who have a passion and talent for the arts are encouraged to apply for Summer Visual & Performing Arts Academy 2019.

This is an arts-focused enrichment program for students currently in grades 5-9. Students will be guided by visual & performing arts teachers to explore artistic disciplines of Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts in a joyful and nurturing environment. This is an exciting opportunity for students currently participating in visual and/or performing arts programs in their schools with high interest and potential to be able to sharpen their skills and boost performance levels over the summer in both the arts and other subjects using arts integration strategies for standards-based connections between the arts and other content areas.

Students will experience one art form (dance, music, theatre, visual arts) of their choosing to develop knowledge, skill and be able to express themselves artistically based on interest while also exploring other art forms on a rotating basis. Students will gain expertise through engagement with community art providers, teaching artists and visits to museums and other cultural institutions. Students will strengthen language arts literacy skills through intentional connections with arts integration of their preferred art form, while also experiencing connections through arts integration with history, science or math.

Enrollment will rely heavily on dance, music, theatre, visual art teacher or other teacher recommendation. For instrumental music, availability of instruments to be used over the summer will also be a consideration. The program will culminate with a student exhibit, performance and publication. Students will participate in at least two field trip experiences.
