Assistant Superintendent, Student Support Services

This year, 2020 begins my 30th year with the Newark Board of Education. My career began at Oliver Street School where I taught 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th grade and eventually became the ELA Staff Developer. After teaching, I rose through the administrative ranks, and my first administrative role was that of vice principal of Dr. William H. Horton Elementary School. Soon after, I became the principal of McKinley Elementary School and served in that role for 18 years. In 2016, I was asked to assume leadership over the Office of Special Education as Executive Director. Today, I am excited and honored to lead Student Support Service as an Assistant Superintendent of the Newark Board of Education.

Carolyn earned BA in Psychology and Elementary Education (double major) from Kean University and a MA in Educational Leadership and Administration from Kean University.
