Principal Rodriguez was born and raised in Newark NJ. He is a first generation Spanish American raised in the North Ward of Newark. He attended public and private schools in the North Ward and ultimately graduated from St. Benedict's Prep. He obtained a BS in Business Administration and a BA in Spanish from Kean University and a Masters of Educational Leadership from St. Peter's University.

Mr. Rodriguez first worked with the district as a substitute teacher in 2004 at Weequahic HS. He went on to become a teacher of Finance /Economics /Law. During his ten years at Weequahic he held positions as Technology Coordinator, Smart Certified Technician, and Master Teacher.

During his time as a classroom teacher, Mr. Rodriguez was also a very active member of his collective bargaining unit, the Newark Teachers Union. He was elected to the seat of Vice President and chaired the COPE Committee, Finance Committee and was a member of the negotiations committee for two contracts. He was appointed as Vice President to the NJ State Federation of Teachers and the National delegation.

In 2014 Mr. Rodriguez began a new chapter at East Side HS. Having a native fluency in both Spanish and Portuguese, he quickly began to affect change in the climate and culture of the building.   In 2017 he was promoted to the Vice Principal role by Dr. Santos and spent the next 5 years learning from his predecessor. 

Mr. Rodriguez has three sons who all attend Ann Street School and who will soon attend East Side HS to take advantage of the Early College Program. His wife, Mrs. Rodriguez, is also an educator at Ann Street School.
