Phase II Scoliosis Screening
The State of New Jersey has mandated that all public school students are biennially screened for evidence of Scoliosis. Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine, which may cause serious problems if allowed to go attended.
In compliance with this mandate, SPHS’s Health Office/School Nurses will start to further evaluate students who have already been screened earlier this school year by the Physical Education teacher, which was the completion of Phase I of this process.
Now is the time for Phase II.
The School Nurses and School Physician will determine if a medical referral is needed. (Medical referral for re-examination does not mean definite scoliosis.) If the results of Phase II indicate that you need further examination, a referral form will be given to each student so that their parent/guardian may take the appropriate medical steps for follow-up.
If you have any questions, please contact our School Nurses. Thanks in advance for everyone’s cooperation!
