HISTORY MAKING HISTORY: March 22nd Publication- Volume 11(PI DAY)

American History High School celebrated its First Annual Pi Day, hosted by the Math and Science Departments, on March 14, 2022. The success of such a herculean task was not an easy feat. Both department teams worked tirelessly to create this Math cultural experience for students and staff. Babita Kukreja, Department Chair, spearheaded the celebration, which was one to remember. “As a leader of Math Instruction, my vision is to create the joy of learning math in classes…,” said Kukrejah.
Upon entering the cafeteria, the student body was greeted by student volunteers, who facilitated the pie tastings during all lunch periods. Students went from station to station learning fun facts about Pi and participated in interactive activities. Junior, Wendy Pino, won 1st place and was awarded a graphing calculator after memorizing 168 digits of Pi. Christopher Joseph, 2nd place winner, and 3rd place winner, Jamil Sprill received Subway gift cards for memorizing Pi digits.
The crowd was electrified when Antionette Sheen won 1st place winner for the pie-eating contest and a graphing calculator. Khristian Valle, 2nd place winner, and Marques Johnson, 3rd place winner each won Subway gift cards. Lastly, the first place winner of the “Words with Pi Contest” was Aiziz Shah won a graphing calculator. Josue Dama won 2nd place and a gift card.
