Ms. Shantavia Burchette

Our staff person of the month is Ms. Shantavia Burchette from our Visual Performing Arts Department.  She is the Choral Music Director at East Side High School. At the age of 6, Ms. Burchette started taking private voice lessons even though they only accepted adults. She classically blossomed at the LaGuardia High School of performing Arts in New York City. She received her opera training with adjunct professors from the Juilliard School of Music and went on to receive her BM & BA in Vocal Music and Education from Seton Hall University. As a Choral Music Educator she believes in pushing the bar on Urban Music Education, crafting general music curriculum from K-8 in Brooklyn NY and now a part of our very own Performing Arts Academy within East Side. She enjoys composing, arranging and teaching acapella music for her advanced students and helping beginning students find joy. While she is a teacher at heart, she is no stranger to performance. She has performed on many stages from Lincoln Center, to Carnegie Hall, to Madison Square Garden, but her favorite stage by far is in her classroom fostering love and appreciation for music in young artist right here at East Side High. Ms. Burchette and her department were responsible for our performance of West Side Story last year.  So, congratulations to Ms. Burchette for being selected our staff person of the month.

Thank you to Ms. Burchette for making East Side a better place.
