Our senior of the month is Kayla Cielo Colon. When Kayla was five years old, she moved from Puerto Rico to Newark. She started Oliver Street School. Kayla grew up with ten other siblings mostly consisting of step brothers and step sisters. Kayla graduated number three in her grammar school class. When Kayla came to East Side, she was placed in all Honors Classes. Currently, she is enrolled in the Early College program where she will receive an Associate Degree from college at her high school graduation. Kayla has a cumulative grade point average of 4.1 and is ranked number 13 in a class of 445 which is very impressive. Kayla is a member of our National Honor Society and a very active member in our Student Council. She also has time for our Ice Hockey Team. Kayla plans on attending either Rutgers or Stockton University for her undergraduate degree. She plans on majoring in Biology and one day becoming a dermatologist. Kayla was chosen by her peers for her kindness, generosity of spirit and her hard work. While being so successful at East Side, Kayla also has a part time job to help her family. She is always there for her peers and will be a terrific doctor in the future.
