This month we recognize Janet Cazares as our Senior of the month. She was chosen by her peers for her kindness, hard work, and involvement in our school and community. Janet is of Mexican descent, and was born and raised in Newark, and attended Lafayette School. Janet has always challenged herself with many honors and AP classes and will be graduating at the top of her class with an associate’s degree from Essex County College. During her years at East Side, she has participated on the tennis team, the fencing club, the Spanish Club, the National Honor Society, the Guitar Club, and yearbook club.
In our local community Janet has participated in several arts & crafts session for Saint Jude’s Hospital; created coloring books for the children, and volunteered at her local church and the Van Buren Library.
Her hobbies include: graphic design, gardening, photography, and playing the piano.
Janet’s perseverance has paid off. She will be attending Rutgers New Brunswick and will be double majoring in cognitive science and international relations.
She hopes to work as a foreign service officer or in non-profit organizations like Amnesty International. So congratulations to Janet Cazares for being selected as our outstanding senior of the month.
