Our staff person of the month comes from our fabulous Bilingual Department. Ms. Annamari Seawick has the honor this month. Ms. Seawick was born and raised in Finland before she moved to the states in 1988. She went on to Rutgers University where she received a BA in German Literature. She worked for AT&T for a decade before deciding that corporate life was not for her. She wanted to interact with people from all over the world and make a difference. She went back to Rutgers and recieved a M.A. in Second Language Acquisition and started her teaching career in Elmwood Park. She went to Florida where she worked with migrant students from Haiti and Central America. She returned to NJ and went to work at Newcomer Center at Barringer 9 and then finally coming to East Side five years ago.
Ms. Seawick goes about her days quietly while she improves the lives of our new students every day. As Mr. Donovan, her supervisor, wrote, she teaches ESL 1, she is a quiet giant! She is the first person to teach English to most of our incoming students. She does an amazing job of helping students adjust and sticking to the English only approach in ESL. She does a great job of dealing with the CONSTANT influx of new students who registrar each day. She gets new students in her class weekly and her classes become very large but she does her best every day. So, congratulations to Ms. Annamari Seawick for being selected our Staff Person of the month.
