General Information


The Office of Special Education provides a wide range of resources to support student learning outcomes delineated in the district curricula and aligned with the Core Curriculum Content Standards. Continuing to explore and expand the breadth of services within the educational continuum, but especially promoting the education of students with disabilities with their non-disabled peers in the general education environment, the Office of Special Education:

•Assists in the creation of high expectations, accountability, and results that meet the unique needs of every child

•Promotes acceptance and recognition of ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity

•Encourages variability and flexibility in instructional methodologies

•Disseminates relevant information to parents and community providers

•Recommends strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles

•Provides consultation and collaboration in the design, implementation, delivery and evaluation of compensatory, remedial and rehabilitative services

•Performs diagnostic and prescriptive services to improve the efficacy of educational supports and interventions

•Assists in instructional capacity building within diverse learning environments

•Promotes transition opportunities through the development and utilization of effective transition programs, methods and materials

•Facilitates cooperation and collaboration among and between community agencies

•Ensures that the rights of students with disabilities and their parents are protected
