Rutgers Graduate School of Education Honors NPS Educator for Leadership in Literacy Development

Lisa Pizzuta, NPS Office of Language Arts Literacy was presented with the Outsanding Educator Award by Dr. Lesley Mandel Morrow, Director of the Center for Literacy Development

[NEWARK, NJ – June 20, 2018] Rutgers Graduate School of Education Center for Literacy Development has presented an Outstanding Educator Award to Lisa Pizzuta from the Newark Public School Office of Language Arts Literacy. Ms. Pizzuta was recently awarded the honor at a Rutgers Conference and was presented the award by esteemed author Dr. Lesley Mandel Morrow, Director of the Center for Literacy Development.

“Lisa has been a true asset to the Language Arts Department. Her dedication to provide professional development to the teachers of Newark Public Schools has been exemplary, and she truly has an understanding of the needs of our students and teachers,” according to Erskine Glover, Assistant Superintendent at NPS in a network of schools said,

Mr. Glover said the partnership with several of our schools and the Rutgers Center for Literacy Development has been a success due to the diligence and coordination of the work by Lisa Pizzuta. He added, “Our teachers and students are better prepared to educate our young learners, and our learning spaces match the expected rigor due to the outstanding work of our own Newark Public Schools Educator, Lisa Pizzuta.”

Lisa has been employed by NPS since 1996. In addition to her work now, Ms. Pizzuta has also worked as a Kindergarten teacher. She oversees fourteen schools within Assistant Superintendent Glover’s Network, which includes many of the Renew Schools and Community Schools. Lisa’s job responsibilities include ordering curriculum materials, curriculum writing and planning, modeling lessons, in-class support and coaching, conducting school walk-throughs, facilitating grade level meetings, coordinating and facilitating Staff Development Day workshops, training administrators, coaches and teachers, and overseeing DRA2, Reading Inventory and interim test administration.
