Balanced Literacy


The Balanced Literacy model that has been adopted by the district allows students to participate in a variety of activities every day that build and strengthen literacy skills. Students participate in: Independent and Shared Reading, Read Alouds, Independent and Shared Writing, Small Group Instruction, Peer and Partner Reading, Interactive Writing, Publishing and Reader’s Theatre. There are many other activities and creative strategies infused in the teaching and learning process that inspire our students to become spontaneous and creative as they develop into unique literate individuals.

As the literacy department continues to grow and improve, we will be providing new opportunities for students to participate in and display their skills and talents in the coming year.  We encourage parents and students to look for information about new book reading incentives, poetry readings and contests and the debate forum already being planned for next year.
