The Middle School Scholars of 13th Avenue/Dr. MLK School are introduced to electricity and electronics through circuitry and the study of the physical sciences. Their work is in alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards and 21st Century skills necessary for success in the future. They investigate and explore the fundamentals of circuitry and how we use circuits daily in our everyday lives. Students experience project based learning and are collaboratively grouped to experiment and create different types of circuits with distinctive properties. Students use Snap Circuit Kits to re-create circuits such as a shining light bulb, spinning motor, doorbells and more. They also work with miniature circuit boards newly designed and introduced by KORG containing the basic elements of a synthesizer: a keyboard, a sequencer, oscillators and filter which are carefully crafted to create sound through amplifiers and speakers.
